What This Day Is

A Blessing, Not A Baptism

A baby dedication is not the same as a christening or a baptism. We are not deciding faith for your child. That choice stays theirs to make when they are old enough to make it for real.

What we are doing is dedicating them to God, the same way Hannah brought young Samuel to the temple and gave him back to the One who gave him to her. You stand up as parents and say you will raise this child to know Jesus. The church stands up with you and says we will help.

When the families brought their kids to Jesus, the disciples tried to shoo them away. Jesus stopped them, pulled the children close, and blessed them. That is the heart of this. A whole room of people putting their hands and their prayers around one little life.

1 Samuel 1:27 to 28

"I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord."

We Pray Over Your Child

During the service we call your family up. Pastor Johnny prays a blessing over your little one, and the whole church prays right along with you.

Grab photos with the family, hug the people who showed up for you, and head out knowing your church is in your corner for the long haul.

Quick Questions

Is this the same as baptism or a christening?

No. A dedication is parents and the church committing to raise a child in faith. We are not making a faith decision for your child. That is their own to make later when they are ready.

How old does my child need to be?

Any age works. Most families come with babies and toddlers, but if you have got an older child you want to dedicate, you are just as welcome. Sign up and we will set it up.

Do we have to be members to do this?

Not at all. You do not need to be a member or even a regular yet. If this is your first time at Sound of Heaven, that is fine. Come as you are and bring the whole crew.

Can we invite family who do not go here?

Please do. Bring the grandparents, the aunts, the neighbors, all of them. This is a celebration and the more people standing with your family, the better. There is plenty of parking on Commack Road.
