Outreach is the part of church you can see from the street. Turkeys in November. A full table for our veterans. Families from all over the Island walking through Christmas Town in December. Since 2011, Sound of Heaven has believed the church should go to its neighbors instead of waiting for them to find us.
Neighbors First
You can't love a neighbor you never meet. Jesus didn't sit in one building and wait for people to come to Him. He went to the towns, the roads and the dinner tables. He fed hungry crowds. He touched the people nobody touched. He said the Kingdom of God is here, and then He showed us what that looks like with His own hands.
That's why we do outreach. We aren't chasing a photo or a number. The people of Long Island are our neighbors, and Jesus told us to love them. Some of them need a turkey. Some need a seat at a table and somebody to say thank you. Some just need to know a church still cares about them.
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
Apostle Johnny Ova
Three times a year the whole church pours out into the community. Each one has its own page with what to expect, how to help, and where to find the date.
thousands of turkeys, zero questions
Every November we partner with the community to give away thousands of turkeys to families who need one. No paperwork. No questions. Just a turkey, a smile, and a thank you for letting us serve.
honoring those who served
A full sit-down meal for veterans and their families, with music and speakers. Open to all veterans from all branches, and it is free. It's our way of saying thank you to the people who gave the most.
our biggest community day of the year
Live nativity, hot chocolate, photos with Santa, lights everywhere, music and food trucks. And the Christmas story told the way it should be told. Families come from all over Long Island, and it is free for everyone.
The big days draw the crowds. This is the quieter work that keeps moving the rest of the time, close to home and around the world.
We partner with anti-trafficking organizations all year long. That means vigils, speakers and community action that puts a voice behind people who have been silenced. Jesus came to set the oppressed free, and we take that personally.
Find The Next VigilOur community food outreach comes down to one simple thing: our neighbors having enough to eat. If your family is struggling to put food on the table, call us. We would rather know and help where we can than have you go without.
We show up for the schools down the road. Our outreach in Long Island school districts is about serving the kids, the families and the teachers who carry a lot more than anybody sees from the outside.
Our family reaches past the Long Island Expressway. We stand with sister churches in three nations. Same Jesus, same Kingdom.
You don't need experience. You don't need to be a member. You need a willing heart and a little time.
Every outreach date goes on our events calendar first. Check it, mark it, and plan your week around it.

Go To The FormOutreach is better with a crowd. Bring your family, your friends, the guys from work. Invite the people you'd want standing next to you.
Every gift to Sound of Heaven helps carry this work into the community. If you can't be there in person, you can still be part of it.

The things people ask us most about serving, partnering and getting help.
Three big community days: the Thanksgiving Turkey Drive every November, the Veterans Appreciation Dinner once a year, and Christmas Town every December. Beyond those, we do anti-trafficking awareness all year, community food outreach, outreach in Long Island school districts, and we stand with sister churches in Haiti, Ghana and the Philippines.

Outreach is one room in a bigger house. If you want to see the rest of the family, start here.
The people handing out turkeys and pouring hot chocolate are the same people you'll sit next to on Sunday. Come meet them. Sundays at 9 AM and 11 AM, 375 Commack Rd in Deer Park.
