Christmas Town is our free Christmas event for Long Island families, and it is the biggest community day we have all year. Every December we put lights on everything, pour hot chocolate, line up photos with Santa, bring in music and food trucks, and tell the Christmas story the way it deserves to be told. Families come from all over the Island. Yours is invited.
Some families come for the photos. Some come for the cocoa. Most end up staying for the whole night.
Everything else at Christmas Town points here. We tell the story of Jesus' birth the way the Bible tells it: a real family, a real town, a real baby, and a King nobody saw coming. No cartoon version. The real thing, told so a kid can follow it and a skeptic can respect it.
The manger scene with real people in it, close enough for your kids to stand right there and take it in.
Warm cups in cold hands. It is December on Long Island. You are going to want one.
Bring the kids and get the picture. It will be on your fridge for years.
Lights on everything we could reach. Slow down and walk through it.
Christmas music filling the air, the kind you end up singing along to whether you planned on it or not.
Food trucks on site, so you can skip cooking and make a whole night of it.
No ticket and no catch. Bring the grandparents, the toddlers, and the teenager who says they are too old for this.
Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
Strip away the wrapping paper and the Christmas story is wild. God did not show up in a palace. He showed up as a baby, born to a young couple far from home, laid in a feeding trough because there was no room anywhere else. The first people to hear the news were shepherds working the night shift.
Isaiah said the government would rest on his shoulders, and it does. Jesus did not come so we could sit around waiting on something. He came as King, his Kingdom arrived with him, and it has been here and growing ever since. That is good news for a family in Deer Park in December, the same way it was good news for shepherds outside Bethlehem.
So at Christmas Town we tell it straight. Kids get it. Grown-ups who have not been inside a church in twenty years get it too. If you want to go deeper, read about where Christmas came from and about whether Christians should celebrate it at all.

Christmas Town is easy. No tickets needed. Here is what is worth knowing.
Christmas Town happens in December. The date and times go up on our events page first, so check it and save the night.
Grandparents, toddlers, cousins in from out of town. If your kids love it, Kingdom Kids is here every Sunday.
Long Island in December is cold. Layers, gloves, and hats for the little ones will keep the night fun.
The family next door who has never set foot in a church? This is the easiest invite you will ever make. Free, fun, and nobody gets preached at in the parking lot.
Christmas Town takes a lot of hands. If you call Sound of Heaven home, or you just want to give back to your town this December, here are a few ways you could help.
Be one of the first faces families see. Greet people, point the way, and help make sure nobody feels lost.
First ImpressionsHelp keep the cups full and the line moving. Smiling is encouraged. Spilling is forgiven.
Lend a hand with the live nativity, in the scene or behind it. Either way, you are helping tell the best story there is.
Help keep the line happy and the kids excited for their turn. Patience is the only skill you need.
Help light the place up before families arrive, and help pack it all away when the night is done.
Music helps carry the night. If you sing or play, or already serve in worship, tell us.
