Sound of Heaven is a non-denominational church on Long Island, meeting at 375 Commack Rd in Deer Park since 2011. No headquarters somewhere else and no inherited rulebook. Just a Spirit-filled family that reads the Bible carefully and keeps what we believe out in the open.
Non-denominational means we are not part of a larger church body like the Baptists, the Methodists or the Catholic Church. Those churches are full of people who love Jesus, and plenty of our people came from them. We just have no headquarters. Our doctrine comes from Scripture, and our leaders are right here in Deer Park. That freedom matters, but it is not the point. The point is that nothing gets between you and Jesus that does not need to be there.
It also means people walk in carrying every kind of church story. Some grew up Catholic. Some grew up Pentecostal. Some grew up with nothing, and some are still bruised from a church that hurt them. We are glad you are all here. Nobody has to throw away their history at the door. We just ask you to come meet Jesus with us.
Want the longer version? We wrote out what non-denominational really means, history and all.
Non-denominational does not mean we believe whatever. Here is where we stand, in plain words. The full statement lives on our What We Believe page.
Jesus is the final and perfect revelation of God. When we want to know what God is like, we look at Jesus first and read everything else through him.
Scripture is God-breathed and written through human authors in real history. We read it with context, covenant and the first audience in mind, and we do not skip the hard parts.
We are not sitting around waiting for heaven. The Kingdom of God is present and active, and every believer gets to take part in it on a Tuesday at work as much as on a Sunday.
Every gift of the Spirit is active today. Healing, prophecy and tongues are real, and they exist to build people up in love, never to put on a show.
Jesus is the way to eternal life, and nobody earns it. It is a gift he holds out to everyone. When Jesus warned about Gehenna, he spoke of perishing, and we read it the way his first hearers would have.
Apostolic, prophetic, evangelistic, pastoral and teaching gifts are functions that equip the body, not rungs on a ladder. Every person in the room has something to give.
Two Sunday services, each about ninety minutes start to finish. Here is the whole morning laid out, so nothing catches you off guard.
Park anywhere in the lot at 375 Commack Rd. Wear whatever you have on. There is no dress code and nobody is checking.
Our First Impressions team walks you to Kingdom Kids. Volunteers are background-checked and check-in is secure, so you can actually focus.
Modern worship with a live band. Sing, stand, sit, raise your hands or just take it in. Nobody is watching you.
Apostle Johnny Ova or one of our team teaches the Bible like a real person talking to real people. After that, stay for a conversation or slip out. Both are fine.
Kingdom KidsTheir own room, their own lesson.

BaptismNew life, out loud.
Want to hear how we teach before you come? Watch a recent sermon from your couch first. No shame in that.
John and Jay from Sound of Heaven have been incredibly instrumental in me coming to the Lord. The church is a true melting pot of a community, finding people of all sorts of backgrounds worshiping together. It's a beautiful sight to see. Rachel and other worship leaders really know how to help open your heart and receive the Lord's grace. I only wish it was closer to where I live. If it were I would be there every week. God bless.
That melting pot is the whole idea. If you live anywhere near Deer Park, we might be closer than you think. Here are the towns we serve.
Tell us you are coming and somebody will be looking out for you at the door. One friendly note after, and that is it.
The things people wonder about a non-denominational church but rarely ask out loud. If you have a harder one, bring it on a Sunday. We would rather have an honest conversation than a polite one.
I meet a lot of people who love Jesus and are worn out on church politics. If that is you, come sit with us for a Sunday. Bring your questions. Bring your history. We have room for both.
Apostle Johnny OvaIt means Sound of Heaven is not part of a denomination like the Baptist, Methodist or Catholic church. We are an independent, Spirit-filled church in Deer Park, led by Apostle Johnny Ova and our elders, and our beliefs come from Scripture read in its context.
No. Jeans, sneakers, a suit, a hoodie. Whatever you have on is fine. We care that you came, not what you wore.
Yes. A lot of our people grew up in another tradition. You will hear some things said differently, and you are welcome to ask why. We will never mock where you came from.
Kingdom Kids runs during both Sunday services with background-checked volunteers and a secure check-in. Your kids get their own teaching while you sit in service.
Please do. We would rather wrestle with a real question than hand you a slogan. Apostle Johnny Ova teaches with the history and context on the table, and our Wednesday night Bible study is built for questions.
About ninety minutes. Worship comes first, then the message, and plenty of people stay after to talk. Pick 9 or 11 AM, whichever fits your morning. If you have to leave early, nobody will mind.
Some people like to read up before they walk in. Fair enough. Start anywhere.
You can read about a church all day. At some point you have to walk in and see if it is real. Come at 9 or 11 AM, sit wherever you want, and decide for yourself.
