Prophetic ministry here is not fortune telling, and it is not a show. It is the Holy Spirit using ordinary people to build each other up, always pointing back to Jesus, and always weighed by the church.
The Bible gives prophecy a simple job description. If a word does not do one of these three things, it is not doing what prophecy is for.
A word that helps you stand back up. It builds, it does not tear down, and it leaves you stronger in your faith than it found you.
A word that puts courage back in you on the day you were ready to quit. It calls out what God has already put inside you.
A word that reminds you God is near when life has gone quiet. It meets grief and fear with the steady presence of the Father.
But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.
1 Corinthians 14:3
We believe every gift of the Spirit is active today, prophecy included. On the day of Pentecost, Peter said the Spirit would be poured out on sons and daughters, young and old, and that they would prophesy. That happened, and the church has been living in it ever since.
Prophecy, the way we understand it, is the Holy Spirit giving someone a word that strengthens another person. It might be a Scripture that suddenly lands. It might be a sentence that names what you have been carrying when nobody knew. It always sounds like Jesus, because Jesus is the clearest picture of the Father we will ever get.
If you are wondering whether any of this is even biblical, start with Are There Prophets Today? and What Is Prophecy In The Bible? We wrote both for honest skeptics.
Paul was not shy about prophecy, and he was not careless about it either. He told the church to let prophets speak and then let the others weigh what was said. We take both halves seriously.
A real prophetic word makes Jesus bigger and draws you closer to Him. If a word draws attention to the person giving it, something is off.
Every word is tested against Scripture, the character of Christ, and the leaders of the house. Nobody gets a free pass, including us, and nobody gets to say “God told me” and end the conversation.
God does not use prophecy to scare people into line. Words of doom, threats, and predicted disasters do not come from the Spirit of Jesus.
No paid readings, no predictions for hire, and no private word in exchange for an offering. The gifts are free because the Giver is.
Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said.
1 Corinthians 14:29Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good.
1 Thessalonians 5:20 to 21Ephesians 4 names apostolic, prophetic, evangelistic, pastoral, and teaching gifts. We see them as functions inside the body, not ranks or titles to chase. Each one exists to equip God's people and bring the church to maturity. More in our post on the five-fold ministry.
Builds, plants, and lays foundations so the church can grow.
Hears and speaks what strengthens, encourages, and comforts the body.
Carries the good news to people outside the walls.
Shepherds, cares, and stays close when life gets heavy.
Opens Scripture so people understand it in context.
The prophetic function never works alone. It serves alongside the other four, under the same Jesus, for the same people.
Prophetic ministry here is not a separate event you buy a ticket for. It shows up where the church already gathers to worship and pray, with leaders present and in love.

Prophecy makes some people nervous, usually because of something they saw somewhere else. Here is how it works at Sound of Heaven.
Yes. We believe every gift of the Spirit is active today, including prophecy, healing, and tongues. They are given to build up the church in love, not to impress anyone or put someone on a pedestal.
No. We do not expose people's private lives in public. If someone senses an encouraging word for you, it is shared with care, often with a leader present, and you are always free to weigh it for yourself.
We weigh it against Scripture, against the character of Jesus, and together with the leaders of the house, the way 1 Corinthians 14:29 and 1 Thessalonians 5:21 describe. A word that brings fear, control, or confusion gets set aside.
Never. No paid readings, no predictions for hire, and no words traded for an offering. The gifts of the Spirit are free because the Giver is generous.
No. Prophecy in the Bible was mainly God speaking to His people about their own moment: calling them back, comforting them, and showing them what He was doing. We do not make predictions over people's lives. Here a prophetic word strengthens, encourages, and comforts, and it always points to Jesus.
Paul told the whole church in Corinth to eagerly desire to prophesy, so the door is open to every believer. We grow in it together, with teaching and accountability to the leaders of the house.
Tell us you are coming. We will save you a seat and answer any questions before you walk in.
