Sound of Heaven is a Spirit-filled church on Long Island where the gifts of the Holy Spirit are alive, the worship is real, and the Bible stays at the center. The same Spirit who filled that room in Acts 2 is moving now, and we take what we believe seriously enough to walk in it with love and order.
Every Spirit-filled church points back to one morning in Jerusalem. Here is why it still matters on Commack Road.
Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Acts 2:2 to 4Notice the fire rested on each of them. On ordinary people in an ordinary room. Peter stood up that same day and said the promise was for them, for their children, and for all who are far off.
Peter called it the last days, and he meant his own generation, the closing years of the old covenant. The Kingdom Jesus announced came in power, and the Spirit was poured out on all flesh. We do not live in a waiting room. We live in that outpouring. Read the whole story of the day of Pentecost.
We do not believe the gifts of the Spirit ended with the apostles. Paul wrote that they are given for the common good. That is the test we use. If a gift is not serving love, building somebody up, or pointing them to Jesus, something is off.
We pray for the sick, in the room and by name. Sometimes God heals in a moment and sometimes it is a process. We never blame your faith, and we will always tell you to keep seeing your doctor.
Prophecy strengthens, encourages and comforts. Words are weighed and tested, and they always point to Jesus. No fear words and no predictions for hire. Our prophetic ministry is built on that.
A gift for prayer and worship. When it is spoken out loud to the room, Paul asks for an interpretation so everybody is built up. Nobody here has to speak in tongues to prove anything.
Insight from God for a real situation in your life. Given gently, received freely, and always checked against Scripture and the character of Jesus.
A settled trust that God is going to move, given right when somebody needs something solid to stand on.
We believe God still does what only God can do. We also refuse to hype it, stage it, or sell it.
Plenty of people who walk through our doors grew up Pentecostal, and that makes sense. We honor the Pentecostal and charismatic movements that kept the gifts of the Spirit in front of the church for generations. We are grateful for them.
But Sound of Heaven is a non-denominational church. We are not part of a Pentecostal denomination, and we hold some things differently, like how we read Bible prophecy. We keep the fire and we read the Bible carefully. You do not have to choose between the two.
Apostle Johnny Ova leads this house with one simple test: if the Spirit is moving, it will look like Jesus.
Paul told a church full of gifts that everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way. Not to shut the Spirit down, but so nobody gets hurt and everybody gets built up. That is how we run a room.
